UNUSUAL EVENTS:

My father tried to enlist and was refused because of his work (made him very  angry).  He was one of 15 USGS surveyors/employees that made the invasion maps  from aerial photographs for the Normandy Beaches.  The OSS (at the time) took them all out somewhere in the vicinity of Langley, VA and kept them  incommunicado for the duration of that effort until after the invasion had occurred.  Then they were allowed to go home.
