Joseph Vera

I am having a very difficult time finding info on my grandfather, Joseph Vera, born abt 1883. His birthplace is possibly Massachusetts, otherwise unknown to me. In the 1920 Federal Census he is listed as residing in Solano County, CA with his first wife Mary E. (Morris) Vera and their seven children. They separated/divorced and Mary returned to MA with the children (exact date unknown). Joe remained in CA, either in Solano County or the greater San Francisco area. When checking the 1930 Federal Census, I couldn't find him listed. He didn't pass on until the 1970's. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
