Russel Ransom Family

Posted by Linda Stickler Ransom <ransjer@aol.com> on Sun, 11 Jul 2004

Russel Ransom was my husband's greatgrandfather. The first account I have found on him was the Johnson Co.,AR,census of 1850, Clark Township. Russell was 17, a farmer. A Mary Ann Ransom, age 57, born in South Carolina, was the head of household, also listed was Nancy Ransom, age 14 and William Ransom age 8.The children are listed as haveing been born in AR. Next I find him on the 1860 Coryell Co. Co., TX census, with him are Mary Ann, Nancy and William, it has Russell as a herdsman, also he is listed on a list of families asking for finical help because the breadwinner is in the Civil War(Russel is the breadwinner). He is next in the 1870 census and married to Margaret Couch( I first find her on the Tippah Co.,Mississippi, her parents are Lewis Couch, farmer, born in S. Carolina, her mother is Mary Ann, born in Tennessee) The next census I find them in is the 1880 Wise Co.,Texas. This is where he has my husband's grandfather, John Abraham Ransom. Russell dies in 1905 in Wise Co.,Texas and Margaret is burried beside him in 1932. If antone has any information on Russel Ransom or Margaret I would really like to hear from them I would love to fill in some of the missing pieces, it was always understood in the family that Russel was in the Texas Rangers and no one had heard a connection with the Civil War, I do know that alot of older men filled in the Texas Ranger rouster during the Cicil War so that the younger men could fight in the war, but finding information on either is like looking for a needle in a hatstack, only officers seem to be listed, unless is there is someone out there with information for me. Thank you for listening to me. Mrs. Jerry Douglas Ransom
