My name is Donald Rance and I was born in Grand Rapids, MI and grew up in Grand Haven, MI where there are a number of Rance's most with Logansport ties). My Father (Gerald (Sonny) Rance) and Grandfather (Donald Lee Rance) were from Logansport. My Grandmothers name was Mary Sturdevant, but I know little of that side of the family. My Aunt and Uncle (Donald and Mary's other children were Caroline and Arthur (Art). My brother and I have tried to trace back the Rance family tree a number of times, but haven't gotten far. Any info you have would be appreciated..

I too am related to the Rance/Sturdevant side. My father was (deceased) Larry Rance Sr of Logansport and his father was Paul Rance & his mother was Carrie Sturdevant. They lived in Lucerne and operated a grocery store for several years prior to moving to Logansport. They had 13 children and only 4 remain living. William, Betty, Caroline, and Ted. We have family living in Grand Haven and Muskegon, MI. Mike Rance used to operate (he still may) a tank cleaning service out of Michigan. Love to chat and find out more, just e-mail if interested.

Steve My Grandfather Donald and your Grandfather Larry were brothers. They married 2 sisters, Myrtle and Carrie Sturdivant. Here's a link to the Sturdivant faily tree http://mkhgenealogy.com/cgi-bin/Genealogy/Data.cgi?Path=/Sturdivant/John/Matthew/Henry/James/James/William/Elkanah Guess that makes us second cousins. I grew up in Grand Haven and remember Mike Rance from when I was a kid..he kept a pony in our small barn for awhile. Also had 2 great uncles, Maynard and Cecil that lived in Grand Haven and a great uncle Ken who moved back and forth between Logansport and Grand Haven.
Alway glad to chat with Family and try and keep filling this family tree in

Posted by:Tony Hart <mgtdfan@yahoo.com> on Fri, 21 Aug 2009, in response to Rance family history, posted by Warren Rance on Sun, 20 Oct 2002
I refer to your GenCircles entry for Te Wharerauaruhe concerning Maori ancestors of the Davis family, New Zealand.Te Wharerauaruhe means the house of bracken or fern and I suspect that the great chief Taiaroa would be somewhat surprised to learn that his mother was a male and his father, Korako, was female! Seriously though, Te Wharerauaruhe is very well documented. She is listed in the Ngai Tahu "blue book" of Kaumatua alive in 1848 (No 1335 file 351). Her whakapapa appears in "Ngai Tahu: A migration history" (ISBN 978-1-877242-39-7 page 216). Korako, her first husband was killed when Capt James Kelly sacked Otakou in 1817. She was married to her second husband, Matthew Hamilton, a whaler, by Rev Charles Creed in Akaroa on 28 September 1845 and bore him 3 children, one of whom was my great grandfather. She is also documented in "The World of John Boultbee" and Gordon Ogilvie's book "Banks Peninsula, Cradle of Canterbury" (ISBN 978-0-9583315-4-8 2007 Page 27.)
May I respectfully suggest that you correct the record you posted on GenCircles.
