Subject: Wilkins ResearchMr. Jeri L. Wilkins
My name is Susan Brown Cofield and my grandmother was Louise Wilkins. Her father was Lazurus Berry Wilkins, his father was John Berry Wilkins born around 1861. I believe John's father was named William Wilkins, but he left to fight in the civil war and never came home. We are all from Laurens County, Georgia. I really haven't done much research on this line yet. Do you have any Wilkins family from Laurens Co. ? Thanks for your time.
My grandfathers name was William Jessie Wilkins and he was from around the Cobb County, Pauling County, Polk County GA. The three counties that i have named my grandfather owned land in each county and I have the tax receips. For the years of 1890, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895, 1896 for Cobb County, GA. For the years of 1889, 1888, 1895, 1894 for Pauling County, GA. For the years 1878, 1879 for Polk County, GA. I am not sure if Grandpa Wilkins owned land in Laurens County, GA. I don't think Grampa Wilkins was old enough to go to the Civil War. I think he would have been about 9 years old. My Great Grandfathers name was Jessie Wilkins and he married Sara Ann Collins and if I remember my Uncle telling me about Great Grampa going to the Civil War and coming home with one leg and Great Grandma run him off. Great Grampa was born in 1822 and Great Grandma was born in 1826. This is as far back as I can get on my Great Grandparents and I wish I could find more about them. I hope this has helped you out.
Gods Blessings, Jeri L. Wilkins
