    I don't know if this will help, but my Grandmother's maiden name was Hood and her parents were born and raised in Ireland.

      Usually English. There is a famous family of Royal Navy admirals named HOOD.

      And then there was the Confederate general John Bell HOOD.

        My husband's family on his mother's side are Hoods. Nathaniel Hood emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1620 from Lynn Essex, England.

      Scottish. Cognate with McEWEN and other spellings. A sept of Clan MacLachlan and of Clan MacDougall.

        My last name is Gallacher and im from a Scottish family, however the name Gallacher is not on any of the Scottish crests that symbolise Scottish heritage. I was wondering weather anyone else could help me in finding out where my name origionally comes form? thanks!
