Where did my name come from???

My name is Lara. It is pronounced like Clara without the "C". Whenever I meet a new acquaintance, they say my name, "Laura" or "Lawra" and it gets really annoying. I want to know what my name means, and possibly where it could have come from, because I am adopted, and I don't talk to my biological mother anymore.
