do Carmo

Posted by Fernando <fernando_cima@hotmail.com> on Sat, 01 Nov 2008, in response to do Carmo, posted by Christopher William Felt on Fri, 04 Jul 2008

Hi Christopher,

"Carmo" is the portuguese translation of Carmel, as in Mt. Carmel. "Do Carmo" would literally translate to Carmelite. It is a common portuguese surname and it comes from the then-powerful Carmelite Order (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmelite_Order).
