Origin of Lescalleet surname
Posted by Margaret Raymer Lambert <margaret@bls-inc-tzo.com> on Sun, 30 Dec 2007, in response to my nationality, posted by gary lescalleet on Tue, 27 Jun 2006
Gary, my grandmother was a Lescalleet descendant and I have researched the family. Most of the Lescalleets are descended from a family group in the Frederick Co., Md. area. It is my belief that they were originally French but had lived for several generations in England before emigrating to America in the 18th century (1700s). A William Lescalleet, probably born in England and who emigrated to Maryland, seems to have been the forefather. Of his several children two sons stayed in Maryland, one son moved to Licking Co., Ohio then from there some family members moved to Piatt Co., Illinois.I believe another son moved to the Robinson Valley in Allegheny Co. Pa. and a daughter who married in Maryland has not been traced. You may recognize that you belong to one of these family groups of Lescalleets. My branch moved to Washington D.C. and altered their name to Lescallett.Responses
