P.T. Woodward

Your father may have exagerated things but there are some similiarities to another account. The History of Mansfied, Texas Mid 1800-1965 by the Mansfield Historical Society says, "T.J. Ragland’s only son, Joseph Henry (1852-1898) was shot to death by his brother-in-law, P.T. Woodward. They had apparently argued over the settlement of the estate.”
Last night I was researching the Ragland line and was astonished to find that P.T. Woodward and Eliza Jane had died in Roscoe, Nolan Co., TX. Further research found that they are buried in the Roscoe City Cemetery. This is very interesting to me as that is where many Hunter ancestors lived and are buried, including my parents. Roscoe is pretty small and remote place. They were kin so I wonder if they knew they were related.
My Great Grandfather Arthur Joseph Hunter had lived in Tarrant County, which is why I was researching there. He moved out to Roscoe in the late 1800’s which would have been about the time of the shooting. A.J. Hunter would have been the Great Grandson of Eliza Jane Ragland Woodward’s Uncle.
