Liptrap originally came from Germany

Posted by Lucille <Annah@todays-tech.com> on Thu, 20 Mar 2003, in response to Nationality, posted by Jennie Scopac on Mon, 17 Mar 2003

My mother-in-law's maiden name was LIPTRAP. Her father had said that the LIPTRAP ancestor originally came from Germany, but he wasn't certain where in Germany. The original spelling of it was LIOBTRUT. The first Isaac Liptrap (spelled Cliptrap) came to the US in 1772.
In 1919 he worked on the Railroad in North Platte, NE with a Jewish man and he told him that the surname Liptrap was Jewish. In 1991 A Jewish man told her that it had to be in a certain area in Germany for it to be of Jewish orgin.
If anyone could help us with any info concerning this, we would very much appreciate it.
Thank You, Alven & Lucille Annah@todays-tech.com
