My mother was Shirley Jean Blessing-Simon-Stocking, maiden name Harper, born 30 January 1929, deceased 14 August 1993. I was told by her that the Harper name was connected to Harper's Ferry. Was also told that my maternal grandfather, Field Lafayette Harper, had died of a massive heart attack. I was aware of his occupation, but Stephanie's information that his death was caused by mustard gas is new information for me. My mother was quite secretive when it came to her family's background, and she always maintained that she was born in 1944, when in fact, she was born in 1929, as mentioned above, thus, whenever sharing anything about her family, all the dates were inaccurate. I am seeking the true background/history about my family, since I never got it from her. I am also interested in finding out if any of the females in our family had ever had ovarian cancer, of which I am a survivor. Also, according to my mother, we are descendants of Asa Morse, who fought in the American Revolutionary War. This I know to be true, only because we have documentation proving it to be so. In my sister Jennifer's' possession are the original membership papers of my maternal grandmother Lucille Helen Moody/Harper/Lewis for Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which one can only belong to when one is descended from those who took a significant part in the American Revolution. This means that you, Stephanie, as well as Jenny and myself, all can belong to DAR, if we wish to.

An update on me: I am married to Mr. Edwin Loren Kirtley. My given name was Julie Elizabeth Simon, which I've since changed to Julie Beth Kirtley. I have just turned 48 years of age February 2008 (was born Thursday, about 4:45am on 16 February 1961, at Northwest Hospital, Arlington Heights, Illinois). I have lived in Roselle, Chicago, Elmwood Park, and Franklin Park, all in Illinois, having resided the longest in Chicago, at 2145 N. Tripp Ave., Chicago, IL 60639. Now, I reside at 30 Sleepy Hollow Lane, Clancy, Montana 59634-9812. I have lived in Montana since 2002.

Like you, I have been searching on and off, for information regarding our family's history, very little of which was provided by my secretive mother. Stephanie, I found your email address during this search process, and hope it is current, because I sent you an email on Tuesday, 10 March 2009.

Please write back. I think carrying on a correspondence would be beneficial, for us all, in seeking the truth about our family.
