My own grandparents were from Alatsata & immigrated to Australia. I knew some of their relatives settled in Crete. My grandmother's maiden name was Charouhas.

Con Mastrakoulis's aunt Philia Polites was sister to my grandmother Argero Charouhas.

I think there could be a link. I welcome your feedback & any questions.

  By accident I came across your message re Con Mastrakoulis. Con was married to my mother's sister, Maria Polites. I gave the eulogy at Con's funeral in Bendigo. I have my grandmother's name - my mother Helen married Speros Polites, hence the surame continued. Re your comment about George Mastrakoulis - as far as I know, George had 2 sons, and I don't think either have yet married.
  My grandmother's sister Argero Charouhas - your grandmother - married in Sydney, and there were 2 children, Basil and Koula. I take it you are Basil's son. I've worked out who you are, but would like to know who 'George Mastrakoulis' is. Did you get any more info from him? Keep me in the loop as I am always interested in family history.     Nice to hear from you. I am indeed Basil's son, Argero's grandson.

    Tony Chartres sent me a copy of Con's eulogy. I enjoyed reading this so much as it was informative & equally entertaining. It opened yet another avenue for me to explore. Unfortunately I have not heard anything back from 'George Mastrakoulis'. I thought linking 'Mastrakoulis' to 'Alatsata' was a connection that could yield something of interest. Having read the eulogy, it led me to the portal with which you have written me, so in effect it has done a full circle.

    On the family history I have found one resource, the National Archives Recordsearch (http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx ) very helpful & have requested various documents to be made available on the Internet. One of my most recent requests was for the following Registration of your Grandmother Phylis (with photos too) , if you click the following link:

    I have requested quite a few of these files to be made available & there are currently documents relating to 'Charouha', "Voyagis' & 'Polites' although from what I can tell the latter probably extends beyond 'Theodore Polites' (Phylis's husband) who sponsored my grandmother's arrival to Australia in 1925.
