Hernandez is Sephardic (Spanish) Jewish roots. Hebrew, Israelite and jew from the tribe of Judah. Hernand means bold voyager, and "ez" means erez zion or Son of Zion (Jerusalem, Israel). So the surname Hernandez means "The Bold Voyagers of Zion". They were expert sea farers in the oceans of the world.

I speak spanish, but don't speak hebrew.
Your explanation didn't convince me, so I started to think and look on my own.
First, Hernando is the spanish version of Fernando = Ferdinand. According to behindthename.com:
'The old Spanish form of a Visigothic name composed of the Germanic elements frið "peace" and nanð "daring, brave".'
So bold would be alright, but voyager?
Then the -ez suffix. According to many sources, this is a spanish ending corresponding to english -son.
And again to a number of souces, hebrew 'erez' doesn't mean son but cedar.
Ergo: Hernández would be the son of Hernando.
