I have an ancestor called Miyara Velasco -- I am wondering if you had any other info about the Sephardic Jews who used to live in Asturias -- my ancestors settled in London UK around 1700's - they came via Portugal -so could have been expelled from Spain around 1492 -- any info. on the history of the Sephardic Jews around this part of Spain would be gratefully received -best wishes Judith Rodrigues

the expulsion of jews from portugal was in 1496,only few years after the "spain expulsion". many sephardic jews moved to portugal in these years. few of them that's remained forced in 1497 to convert to christianity and many did. by the way, asturias is not very far from the village "millara" which considered as the origin of "miyara"..
