Shipyard

Andreas:
My name is Russell Barnes. I am a historian living in Biloxi, Mississippi. I have found some information on the Cattarinich shipyard at Lussinpiccolo. Please forgive me because I have just found this material recently and I have yet to fully organize it, so it may seem a little incomplete.

G. S. Cattarinich built several large sailing ships at Lussinpiccolo. Among them were the bark "Dante", built in 1877 measuring 535 tons, the bark "Euro", built in 1875, measuring 140 feet long and 704 tons, the brig "Plod", built in 1861, measuring 116 feet long and 414 tons, and the bark "Vodja", built in 1870, measuring 427 tons.

The Cattarinich family also owned several ships and captained several ships. A.S. Cattarinich was the captain of the 793 ton bark "Lincoln" in 1889. G. Cattarinich captained the 667 ton bark "Imperatore Francesco Guiseppe I" in 1891. S. Cattarinich captained the 452 ton steel hulled bark "Teresa Cosulich" in 1891.

B. Cattarinich owned the 865 ton bark "Arciduca Rodolfo" in 1888. The Cattarinichs owned the 624 ton bark "Cerere" in 1873. A.S. Cattarinich owned the 604 ton bark "Diana" in 1874. A.S. Cattarinich also owned the 663 ton bark "Giano" in 1875. S.V. Cattarinich owned the 481 ton brig "Grant" in 1877. G.S. Cattarinich owned the 525 ton bark "Proto" in 1879. A.L. Cattarinich owned the 426 ton bark "Toni C." in 1878. A Captain Cattarinich owned the 511 ton bark "Triton" in 1873.

Well, as I get more information, I will try and post it. I hope you find these tidbits useful.

Russell Barnes
Biloxi, MS
