Devereux Slave Community

Posted by jo snider <fs02@txstate.edu> on Mon, 07 Mar 2005, in response to east texas, posted by muhammad abdullah on Thu, 03 Mar 2005

Thank you for contacting me. At this point I don't recall anything about the Devereux Slaves in Cass Ct. However, there were nine slaves who were transfered to the ownership of Louisiana Devereux Holcomb (Julien Devereux's sister) after their father's death and her son-in-law was named Williams or Williamson but I don't recall the precise location. Marshall, Texas maybe. I'll certainly keep an eye out for any connections. You have a tough task on the records there, tho. So many institutional birth/death certificates were accidentally or deliberately destroyed over the years. Good luck on your search. Jo Snider
