Cousar, Couser
Posted by Margie <OtMrg@aol.com> on Tue, 02 Mar 2004, in response to another one of us....!!!!, posted by Starcia Cousar on Tue, 02 Mar 2004
Hello StarciaI have been researching the Couser/Cousar surname for several years. I was not raised with my fathers, Willie Cousar, family. My grandfather, Willie P William Couser, died when I was about 6 years old. My father died before I began to search our surname. I have no idea who my grandfathers parents or sibling are.
I was about twelve years old when something happen of which I have not knowledge cause the family that I was raised with to split. It had to be very serious.
My family is from Lancaster, SC. My parents moved to Charlotte, NC before I was born. My grandfather married Martha Mackey. Her parents were Brumby and Julia Duncan. My father keep secrets. After moving to Washington, DC,in 193, where I still live, he visited Baltimore often. I asked my mother about his visits, but she would not answer. There were lots of secrets.
Since I began my research, I have found other Cousars whoses roots are in Lancaster, SC. I found them on the Internet. My sister and I have been attending the Cousar Griffith Jamison family reunion for the past three years. A reunion is being held in Las Vegas August 1-3, 2004.
I have a similar story. My father had a child before marring my mother. I don't know the story. But I think that I have found part of the story. I always knew about the child, who is a boy. I believe he is married to my aunt. The mother of the boy lives in Baltimore. But I don't know her name.
When I was younger, I use to ask questions. However, when I did, I was told, you don't need to know that. As I said, there was always secrets.
I have lots of infomation regarding and I an collecting more. I hope that you will be able to complete some of the holds in my reserch.
If you have any information such as birth dates and place of birth of any Cousar or Mackey, please email.
My grandmother, Martha Mackey had many siblings, such as Mander, lizzie, Edward, Rebecker, George, Columbus, Robert, Lester and Clara. There is a story that my Aunt Clara, who married a Robinson, husband dumped her for one of her sisters. I don't know which one.
My grandmother Martha, according to her picture, was under 5ft. tall and was very dark. Most of the Mackeys that I new were short and dark. The person I knew better was my cousin Tully Mackey. He is deceased. He has a son name Leon and Marcie. There are other children, but I don't know them. They were born after the family split. I have not seen Leon since we were very young.
There are lots of Cousars. They live in Ohio, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Pittsburg, DC, and the Carolinas. We are going to meet in Las Vegas. Come and join us. In the mean time, I am waiting to hear from you.
Margie
PS: I hope that you can atleast understand some of what I have written. May be you will have questions and will email.
