Barnes- Fort Benton,Mt. and Alabama

Posted by william barnes <brobarneswill@netscape.net> on Tue, 18 Nov 2003

My great grandfather,Phillip Barnes died in Fort Benton,Mt. approximately in 1860.His young son,Jack(or John) was adopted by Johnny F.Grant,a cattle baron who pioneered in Deere Lodge,Mt.and has a ranch museum in Mt. named after him. They eventually moved to Canada, leaving behind a sister. I'm looking for info on Phillp(or possibly Phillipe). He was apparently an escaped slave from Alabama, however I have no other info and would appreciate any help that can be provided to me.
