Beginners' Center Objective - The Beginners' Center is dedicated to providing resources devoted to beginning genealogy research, including clean, friendly chat rooms.

Our Beginner's October Star of the Month is Host GFS Shell. She hosts our early chats on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7-8 PM ET. Shell is one of those people who quietly does their jobs and you have a tendency to not worry about things, because she is always there, right on time, chat after chat. On the other hand, she is always willing to help others (depending on her work schedule).

Shell was nominated by several other Wild Bunch hosts, which speaks volumes. Congratulations, Shell!!!!

We've had a couple of hosts whose smiling faces have been missing lately.

Host GFS CarlaD injured her shoulder and is in a cast (can't type)...She expects to be back with us soon.

Host GFS KenR has been on a personal leave, but he also expects to be back soon.

Thank you so much for the beginners guide. I am always looking around on the computer for info on relatives and ancestors but I always come to the place where it request that I sign up for a membership fee. This is the first time I ran across so many kind and helpful people all willing to help. Thanks again D. Bodiford

It's really nice to hear good things about our Beginners' Guide and how well it's being received. Keep those comments coming! Please!!!!!

As I pop in chats from time to time, it is extremely gratifying to watch as a new chatter comes in for the first time. Most of them are shy, scared, and very ill at ease. As time goes on, I watch them actively engage in chats, using our tips and hints, and finally getting to the point where they are helping other new chatters. Then they seem to move on to other more advanced chats. As I watch that progression, I realize that our hosts are much more than "hosts". They are teachers. They teach good, sound, genealogy procedures and techniques. Our chatters move on with confidence, and the ability to pursue their genealogy quests.

The greatest compliment that I hear is "I learned how to do genealogy in the Beginners' Center".
