Beginners' Center Objective:

To provide clean, friendly chat rooms and resources devoted to beginning genealogy research.

Daytime Chats

We are proud to announce that we have added more hosted daytime chats to the Beginner's chat rooms. They are:

Mondays, 12-1 PM ET
Tuesdays 12-1 PM ET; 3-4 PM ET
Wednesdays 12-1 PM ET; 7-8 PM ET
Thursdays 7-8 PM ET

The above chats are in addition to our regularly-scheduled evening chats from 8 PM ET to 12:00 AM ET Sundays through Saturdays.

The Beginners' chat room is staffed by 28 hosts who rotate shifts. They have years of experience of doing their own genealogy. They are extremely personable and willing to help you with tips and hints for doing your own research.

Beginners Packets

Beginners' Packets........the hosts have put together a collection of tips, hints, and suggestions for helping you begin your genealogy quest. This can be sent to you in an e-mail, and is free for the asking. When you come to a Beginners' chat, ask your host to send you one.

Hat & Ears Chat

We have obtained the services of the famous Uncle Hiram (the author of Uncle Hiram's Adventures in Genealogy), who has joined the hosting ranks of the Beginner's chats. His columns are published in the Houston Gazette as well as other local Texas newspapers. Unk has joined Host GFS Chrissy on Monday nights to host the "Hats and Ears" Beginners chat. Unk wears the hat, Chrissy wears the ears (you have to come to the chat to learn about that). <grin>

HOST OF THE MONTH

Host of the Month for January, 2002 was our very own Beginners' Host, Host GFS Flicka. You will find Flicka hosting in Beginners' chats on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays.

GENTREK

On Monday, February 11, 2002 (10 PM to 12 AM ET), GENTREK will celebrate its 1 year anniversary. Hosts GFS DarlaJo and Dae invite you to the party. It will include a history of how GENTREK began, a review of the guests and speakers over the past year, a game, refreshments, and lots of good genealogy conversation.

If you have suggestions for topics for future chats, please send your suggestions to either Host GFSDarlaJo@aol.com OR HostGFSDae@aol.com

The Beginners' Center continues to revamp and upgrade, striving to give the beginning genealogist the best in chats and resources to start/continue their research. Go to Keyword: Roots > Beginners and go exploring. Be sure to check from time to time to look at all the new things that are being added.
