1796 - 1830        Slate or common fieldstone
1830 - 1849        Flat topped hard marble
1845- 1868         Round or pointed soft marble with cursive inscriptions
1850 - present   Masonic four-sided stones
1860 - 1900        Pylons, columns and all exotic -type monuments
1870 - 1900        Zinc monuments
ca 1900             Granite, now common, came into use about 1900
