Have
you ever wanted to get rid of
that squeaky door that announces
people coming on to your Buddy
List? Or maybe have a different
Welcome or
Goodbye?
-
Go to your Desk Top
-
Click on My Computer
-
Click on Control
Panel
-
Click on
Sounds
-
Here you will see a list of
all the events on your
computer with sounds
attached
-
To change what the sound is,
click on the event you want to
change the sound
for.
-
In the box in the area labeled
"Sound" you will see the sound
now attached to that event and
the path that leads to it
(i.e., AOL Goodbye C:\America
Online 5.0\Goodbye if you are
using AOL
5.0).
-
If you want to change that,
you would click on the Browse
Button which brings you a
screen where you can select a
different wav
sound.
-
Depending on what other
software packages you have
loaded on your computer you
will find other wav files in
other directories that may be
used. One I have found that
has some neat things if you
are on Windows 98 is
C:\Windows\Media.
NOTE:
To begin with, you will only have
the basic five AOL wavs in your
AOL folder (Welcome, Goodbye, IM,
You've Got Mail, and Drop--I
think the buddyin and buddyout
ones are added when you activate
your Buddy List). To get others,
you might like to have instead
(doorbell instead of squeaky
door) you may have to download
some or have someone that has
them send them to
you.
If
you have any questions on this,
or any of the tips that we have
had, please do not hesitate to
contact me. Also, if you have any
suggestions for something you
would like explained in this
spot, please let me know and if I
have the answer to your query
I'll be more than happy to
address it.
