A Santa Story

Submitted by HOST GFS Palmina@aol.com

My 3 year old daughter Jessica (who is now 22) and her sister age 2 (who is now 21) went to see grandma and grandpa in New Jersey for christmas. my sister was there, and her poor sickly dog "Kojak" was there too. Before we arrived from our long trip, my parents decided to surprise my babies by having my father dress up as santa and bringing gifts. They managed to get a nice costume from a friend at the chamber of commerce and dad got dressed. He bagged up the gifts, and proceeded down the back staircase to the driveway, from the rear of the house to the front of the house, up the porch steps to the front door, and rang the bell. (We didn't have a chimney). Well the doorbell made "Kojak" go nuts, and the girls jumped when everyone said "gee, I wonder if that could be santa?" So jessica, age 3 determined to get hers first said that she would go down the winding front staircase to the front door and let santa in. Kojak went with her. My sister and i went behind her to see her reaction at the door when she would open it to see santa with a big bag of goodies. Jessica managed to open the huge door and Kojak sat down like he was going to get a treat. My daughter looked straight at santa and said 'oh hi grandpa, come on upstairs'. My sister and I howled in laughter. Dad had forgotten his white santa gloves and to my daughter only grandpa had hairy knuckles and she knew immediately that it was grandpa. That has been a howling story told every year since. Jessica still finds it funny - grandpa too.
