Christmas Story

Submitted by HostGFSFlicka@aol.com

My Christmas story is one that will live with me forever. My brother was 16 years old and got his first job at Woolworth's Department store. He worked hard and Christmas morning he gave me a red stocking with my name on it.

He was so proud in giving me this stocking because it was the first thing he bought with his very first pay check. I have it in a box and look at it often -- especially Christmas morning -- for it helps me get through that time. You see, he passed away in 1977 at the age of 31 on Christmas morning...Don't be sad for me 'cause I have beautiful memories of my brother Bud...

Another memory I have on Christmas is when we would decorate the tree and start putting the tinsel on. This was when the tinsel was nice and thick and you could place it one strand at a time, but now it's so thin you have to use two or three on one branch to make it look good. He had to tell me over and over "One strand at a time, sis." I can still hear him saying that today and after the fourth box I say right out loud. "Shut up Bud, I know it's one strand at a time," and then I just throw it in the air and let it land where it wants to. <LOL>  My own girls have laughed over this many times.

Many Christmas memories are running through my head about Bud, but these two will stand out right on top for they are the most precious to me.

May God Bless each and every one of you this Holiday Season and bring you all fond memories.

Let me finish with a poem from my Grandfather, Henry J. Leighton:

Remembering at Christmas

Christmas is time for remembering
Where pleasant memories were born;
The happy time of childhood
And Christmases past and gone.

There were joyous singing and laughter
A tree glowing with candle light,
Where the family all gathered about, ___
Eager eyes filled with delight.

A time we all shared in giving;
Friends came from far and near,
The air filled with magic
A time we loved so dear.

Do not banish childhood memories
And the joys of another day
It would not seem like Christmas
If no one remembered the way.
