The
events of September 11 make us
all understand just how fleeting
life is. Each of these people
had stories about the holidays
and many of them will never be
able to pass them down to their
ancestors. This holiday season
we need to all realize how
important these stories are and
how much they will mean to those
that follow us. I challenge each
of you to pass some part of you
and your heritage onto your
children or their children this
year.
Think
about giving a copy of your
family tree to someone new. Sit
down with that box of pictures
and write something on the back
of each one. Sit down with a
favorite aunt and get her to tell
you the stories of her holidays
past, and write them down where
someone else can find
them.
One
of my best friends in the forum
turned out to be a cousin of
mine. He had done some marvelous
research of his family tree. He
never gave his research to forum,
Ancestry, his local library or
anyone. He always had a great
story to tell about his family
and ancestors. One day he had a
heart attack and died. His
family was not interested in
genealogy and knew little about
computers. When he died, all his
stories and research died with
him. Don't be like him, write
down your stories and pass on
your research. Let the people
fifty and a hundred years from
now have wonderful stories of you
to share.
