Searching for Birth Records
![]()
A common question you're asked is, "When were you born?" While it may be easy for you to answer this about your own birth date, this is a piece of vital information that genealogists often find difficult to verify. For instance, do you know the birth dates of your parents? Your grandparents? Your aunts and uncles? Your first and second cousins? The more distance there is, both physically and time-wise, from your relatives, the more difficult it is to determine and verify birth dates.
Birth records are an essential part of your research into your family tree. You may be able to contact government institutions such as a bureau of vital statistics. You may have to locate church or synagogue records. You may have to look elsewhere.
