How to use the message boards
Message Board Center ON AOL ONLY
To use our message boards effectively, be sure to click on the tiny "PREFERENCES" button that you see at the bottom of a message board window. It is here that you can set:
> the messages to appear in ALPHABETICAL order and
> the number of previous days to search for older messages (1-999.) This way, you can see all of them. They stay posted for well over 2 years.
We invite you to post a message of your own. However, its wise to avoid the use of symbols in the title. Characters like *** or (( or quote marks like " will confuse the alphabetical order and actually make it harder for others to find your posting. It is best to start a message title with the last name of your ancestor and perhaps his birth year and place.
To go to a message board area, click on the picture icon besides any category to the right. If you would like to view the entire listing of genealogy message boards, click here:

This area will make it more convenient to reread older postings and to do a "Find Since" search of all the forum message topics at once.
Here is a brief explanation of each message board category:
Surnames - Queries & Information
Contains letters of the alphabet as category headers. To use this board, pick an appropriate letter of the alphabet and post your surname there. For example, if you are looking for anyone doing research on the Bowman family name, find the "BN-BR Surnames" topic and post a message titled "Bowman."
States - Queries & Information
You can do the same thing in this states category. If you know what state in the United States that your ancestors are from, you can post a message here.
Countries of the World
This category covers countries outside the United States.
People, Places and Times
This topics covers ethnic, regional groups and times that could be located in more than one place as well as some miscellaneous topics such as "Recipes - Family Favorites."
Computer Tools & Techniques
This topic covers varied interests relating directly to computers. If you want to learn more about a specific genealogy computer program, you can read about it here or post questions here.
This category covers a variety of topics. Especially important is the "New? Introduce Yourself!" message board for new members, where you can post a brief introduction about yourself and your interests.
