Will of John McNew, dated February 9, 1820


Washington County State of Virginia Witnesseth I John McNew do make this my last Will and Testament and do bequeath to my beloved wife Nancy McNew all the goods & chattles now in my possession,which are as follows, Two horses, three cows, five calves, two sheep, ten hogs, together with all the household and kitchen furniture. Also all movable effects on the premises with the crop now in process, out of which my wife is to pay all my just debts, the remainder to be appropriated to the support of my wife & children. Given under my hand & seal this 9th day of February 1820.

At a Court held for Washington County the 21st day of March 1820. The last Will & Testament of John McNew deceased was exhibited in court & proved by the oath of Patrick Gaynon a witness thereto & ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Hugh Miller & John Miller and there being no executor named in said Will & the widow of said John McNew dec appearing in court and relinquishing her right to administration on the said estate, who took the oath of an administrator with the Will annexed prescribed by law & entered into & acknowledged their bond in the sum of six hundred dollars with Alexander Eakin & Peter Clark their securities conditioned as the law directs. A Certificate is therefore granted them for the administration of the said estate with the Will annexed in due form.
