SOME "Early" SOUTH CAROLINA MARRIAGE RECORDS: 1641-1799 I have not found a single source for marriage records prior to 1800 in South Carolina, so I have started one of my own. Any additions or correction to this file would be appreciated. E-Mail me at prsjr@aol.com
This is a "Comma-delimited" ASCII data file for some 4,756 marriages in South Carolina. The first file is "Indexed" by last name of "Groom", giving Marriage date, location and "Source Information". Second file is "Indexed" by "Brides" last name.
South Carolina marriage records have been difficult to obtain. Until 1911 there were no legal requirements for keeping records in South Carolina, as in other states. Some SC records were gathered by HUNTING FOR BEARS, INC. Which were taken from newspapers, church records, pension appli- cations, and other source where marriage records could be found. Many thanks to Dorothy Ledbetter Murray and Nicholas Russell Murray, Hunting For Bears, Inc., P.O. Box 25593, Salt Lake City, Utah 84125
