| Lester Hollis
The funeral will be held May 9 for Lester J. Hollis of Eugene, who died May 2 of heart failure. He was 73. Hollis was born Dec. 9, 1922 in Spearsville, LA. to William and Callie Hollis. He married Margaret Rhodes in Spearsville on Jan. 26, 1946. Prior to his marriage, he served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He earned a bachelor of science degree in botany/forestry from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. where he lived from 1946 to 1949. He did post-graduate work at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Hollis lived in Stuttgart, Ark. from 1951 to 1952, and then moved to Memphis, Tenn., where he lived until 1959. A forester with the Bureau of Land Management, he also worked as a researcher at the University of Arkansas. He enjoyed singing gospel songs, growing flowers, helping friends with their yards and going for drives in the country. He attended the Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Judy Corbett of Eugene; a brother, Ralph of El Dorado, Ark.; two sisterw, Marie Creed and Lillian Gunter, both of Spearsville; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM today at Springfield Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Thursday's service will be at 2 PM at the funeral home.
