NOTE:

Pah-Ute County, an original Arizona county, was created by Arizona Territory in 1864, mostly within an area west of the Colorado River now part of Clark Co., Nevada. The county’s inhabitants were included in the 1866 Arizona Territorial census, but in the 1870 federal census, people living in the original Pah-Ute area were enumerated within Lincoln Co., Nevada, and in Utah’s Rio Virgin County. The latter county was erroneously established by Utah Territory entirely within Nevada and not abolished until 1872. When the Nevada-Arizona boundary was adjusted in 1869, a remnant of Pah-Ute east of the Colorado River was still part of Arizona Territory. Pah-Ute county was officially abolished in 1871, the area incorporated into Mohave County. No county records for Pah-Ute County exist, but at least one census was taken under the name Pah-Ute: The 1866 Arizona Territorial Census was the only census authorized by the territorial legislature, the 1864 territorial census being a federal enumeration. It includes schedules for all five counties in place in 1866: Mohave, Pah-Ute, Pima, Yavapai and Yuma counties.
