ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY:
- Organized with eight companies (lettered from L to P and R to T) as an extra force attached to the 2nd Infantry Regiment at some time prior to August 1861.
- Two additional unlettered companies attached, and it was redesignated as the 18th (Marmaduke's) Infantry Regiment in December 1861.
First Commander: Jonathan S. Marmaduke (Lieutenant Colonel)
Field Officer: James B. Johnson (Major)

- Upper District of Arkansas (August-September 1861)
- Indian Territory (September-October 1861)
- Hindman's Brigade, Hardee's Division, Central Army of Kentucky, Department #2 (October-December 1861)
- Rowlett's Station, Kentucky (December 17, 1861)
